Walk for Wag at Kielder; also a day out for our friends!
One of the best things about our walk at Kielder is hosting some of the people that we visit, our friends, and enable them to have a day out in a beautiful place, doing interesting things, surrounded by gorgeous dogs and great people.
We love that they always love it but it also gives everyone who comes to support Wag at Kielder, the opportunity to hear first hand why they’re raising the necessary funds to support our special friendships.
This year was no exception, Sheila our absolute bestie of course, opened the 10km walk and the 3km walk too this year. She had her face painted straight away, had chat with everyone, old and new friends, and then spent hours cuddling as many dogs as could be cuddled. The Newfoundlands and the Police Dogs were a huge hit particularly her best friend PD Jinger with PC Rob Burn!
Ros and John hadn’t been out for over a year, not even to the shop close by. We were very honoured they came all the way from Newcastle to be with us for the day. They loved the Hexham Uketeers and as Ros told us her favourite things are dogs and birds, a day at Walk for Wag which included a session with the fabulous Birds of Prey centre team, made it a great day out.
All of that and then Jonty shared his story of the development of the reservoir and how at the age of 7, he pressed the button to flood the original town.
Finally, we honoured our friend Mr John Robson. We lost John in May 2020, he was a great friend of Wag, he loved nothing more than to talk about Wag to everyone who’d listen and to explain how joining “the Wag Company” had changed his life. He loved being at Kielder and every year he opened our 3km walk. We miss him terribly and in his memory we planted a tree at the start of the walk in his happy spot. We miss you John.
So what a day it was! Loads of laughter, some tears, the amazing spectacle that was the Newfoundlands rescue, cake, pizza, gorgeous dogs, Uketeers, great people; a perfect day!
