Our Coast to Coast riders are gearing up for the big event!
Our team of very brave riders have worked hard for months on their training to make their dream of cycling Coast 2 Coast next week a reality. We now have six riders who are ready and able to undertake this amazing challenge, cycling Coast to Coast, on 2 and 3 July.
They will be covering 128 miles over two days, starting in Workington in Cumbria and covering stunning scenery and the region’s very hilly route to end in Tynemouth for very well deserved congratulations and celebration!
Sean Churchill is a Wag trustee and he’s cycling this weekend. Sean told us:
“When I decided to do the Coast 2 Coast cycle ride to support Wag I knew it would be a challenge. I had done it twice before and the last time was in 1994 when I was 28. Although I do spinning regularly, nothing prepared me for the physical and mental challenges of the first 2 training rides. I had never tackled hills of this extremity since my late 20’s.
“The support we have received from Colin and Leigh has been superb, the progress we have made and the journey we have been on has been brilliant. I am really looking forward to achieving this goal at 56 and helping end loneliness for more people by bringing the companionship of another Wag Friendship Dog or 2 to those would will benefit from it most.”
Huge thanks to the team for all their fundraising and training in preparation for the event. Thanks too to Sam from the Wag office team who’s volunteering over the weekend as support driver.
Finally, a very special thank you to the event organisers, volunteers Leigh Thompson and Colin Edgar, for developing and managing the event, supporting and encouraging riders and for regularly hosting training events to prepare everyone for the incredible challenge all to raise funds for Wag to end loneliness in our communities. Thank you both so much!
It’s not too late to support this wonderful team by making a donation if you can on their JustGiving fundraising page here.
