Coast to Coast: a wheelie big success!

128 miles, over many hills and through torrential rain…they did it!

Huge thanks and congratulations to our amazing team of cyclists who cycled from Workington to Tynemouth over two days, all to end loneliness for older dog lovers.

So far they’ve raised over £5,250 for Wag – that’s 13 Visiting Wag Teams (our professionally assessed volunteers and their special dogs) befriending older people in our communities for a whole year! An incredible achievement!

We’re in absolute awe of these six amazing cyclists who, with the support of cyclists Leigh and Colin and support crew Sam and Alan, did an absolutely incredible job. After months of training and preparations they cycled in very challenging weather conditions and a mostly hilly route to arrive in Tynemouth as a team, below.

Rider Rachael Sellers, part of the C2C team from Corporate Friend of Wag BW Medical, shared: “When I agreed to the C2C I have to admit I had no real clue what was ahead of me. I hadn’t been on a bike for over 5 years, at 42 with two young children I just fancied a challenge to push me out of my comfort zone and with encouragement from my colleagues I blindly signed up! Roll on 6 months, I bought a bike through the cycle to work scheme and I’ve cycled 128 miles over two days through every season with a team of riders and support crew I feel absolutely privileged to have been part of!

“The hill climbs were brutal but the professional guidance we received from Colin and Leigh throughout our training plan, the encouragement from Sam and Alan at our stopping points, along with a good dose of humour during the ride got us through and collectively we smashed it! An exhilarating experience, I’ve made friends and memories for life and I’m exceptionally proud of what we all achieved both personally, as a team and for our chosen charity Wag and Company who provide life-changing friendships for the elderly who are lonely or isolated. To be able to achieve a personal goal you didn’t think possible AND raise much needed funds for a great charitable cause is a blessing…What’s next?!”

Thank you so much to these inspirational people and to everyone who has supported their fundraising efforts! There’s still time to donate to their JustGiving page here.
