Visiting Wag Team Steph and Alfie visit Mrs Josephine P in Middlesbrough
Mrs P was referred to us by Adult Social Care in 2022 after her health deteriorated and she couldn’t get out and about like she used to. She was spending too much time on her own as a result, and her blood pressure was problematic, which they felt could be helped by stroking a dog again.
Mrs P always had Golden Retrievers of her own, but it’s not possible to have a dog now, and of course, she misses them.
We quickly matched a perfect Wag Team who visited Mrs P for over a year, but a change in family circumstances meant they had to stop visiting. Fortunately, we almost immediately matched Steph and her Alfie, another beautiful Friendship Dog, and happily, another Golden Retriever!
Alfie really loves Mrs P, and she was over the moon to have a Golden Retriever to cuddle again. She also loves chatting to Steph about all her previous Goldies, whilst Alfie spends the whole time sitting next to her chair, having lots of cuddles and reportedly a few treats!
Her daughter loves her Mum having regular Wag visitors: “Alfie is a lovely calm dog”, she told us, “who loves Mum and, of course, the biscuits!”.
“Mum loves having a chat with Steph too, and she really loves the cushion with Alfie’s face on it, which ‘he’ gave her for her birthday. Visits are a great benefit for Mum, and we’re very grateful for Steph and Alfie and Wag’s service.”
