Older dog lovers in our region need your help!
Our volunteers are the beating heart of what we do, and by sharing their lovely dogs, they transform the lives of older dog lovers. All it takes is an hour or two most weeks.
We’re looking for volunteers and their furry friends in the following areas. Can you help?
Tyne & Wear
Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Visiting patients in wards and ultimately in the community. We are proud to be supporting the RVI and Freeman Hospitals with our beautiful low-shedding Friendship Dogs.
Washington
Mrs S is 83 and lives alone in Washington. After her health deteriorated, she was unable to get out and about like she used to, spending a lot of time at home on her own. As a huge dog lover, owning dogs big and small and having a great sense of humour, Mrs S would hugely appreciate the friendship of a Visiting Wag Team for good chats and doggy cuddles.
County Durham
Peterlee
Mrs S is 88 and lives alone in Peterlee. Although she gets regular visits from carers, she spends a lot of her time at home on her own as she is unable to get out and about. Mrs S misses her Westie, and the companionship of owning a dog but due to her health is unable to have one now. Regular visits from a friend and their lovely dog would make the world of difference to Mrs S. Could you and your lovely dog be the perfect Visiting Wag Team for her?
Teesside & North Yorkshire
Stockton-On-Tees
Ms L is 81, originally from Scotland but now she lives alone in Stockton. She has always had dogs, most recently losing her beloved poodle X but since her health has deteriorated and she has also lost her sight, she can’t look after a dog of her own any more. She really misses them, she says she almost prefers them to people, and she would really love a small, cuddly dog to visit her and sit next to her on her bed. Obviously a Poodle X would be the icing on the cake but if your lovely cuddly small dog can help, you’ll make a huge difference.
Mrs S is 88 and has lived alone since she lost her husband a few years ago. She has wanted a dog ever since and has fond memories of showing Scottish Terriers when she was a child, but due to her mobility she is unable to have a dog of her own now. Her days can feel quite lonely as she struggles to go out and socialise, so regular visits from a fellow dog lover for a chat and a cuddle with their lovely dog would bring her great pleasure.
Mr C is 86, he’s a huge dog lover and he’s had Labradors amongst other breeds in the past but for health reasons now it’s no longer possible to have a dog of his own and he misses them. Visits from a family member’s dog always lift his spirits but as they don’t live close by this doesn’t happen very often. Mr C lives with his wife but has a number of challenging health issues that are making him feel pretty isolated. Having Wag friends to visit regularly will make the world of difference to the way he feels about his life.
