Mrs M is 81 and lives in her own home alone since losing her husband. She is a huge dog lover, and they always had dogs in their lives, from Corgis to Rottweilers! Now she’s unable to look after a dog of her own, it really upsets her. She would absolutely love to have the company of a dog to cuddle again and a regular visit from a new friend for a cuppa and a chat. Could you spend an hour most weeks to help?Â
Whitley Bay Â
Mr W, who is 86, lives on his own in his own home following the loss of his wife just two months ago. They had always had German Shepherds, but due to his health problems, he can no longer care for a dog, and he really misses their company. He is supported by carers, but regular visits from a two-legged friend and cuddles from a new furry friend would make such a difference.Â
Newcastle upon TyneÂ
Mrs G is 84, and since her separation, she has lived alone in Newcastle in sheltered accommodation. She’s always loved dogs; she had Spaniels and Red Setters in the past, but it’s no longer possible. As she’s lost family and friends in the last couple of years, she’s struggling and feeling quite isolated. Your regular visits and cuddles with your lovely dog will change Mrs G’s world! Â

Near Durham Â
Mrs E, 88, lives on her own on the outskirts of Durham. Although she has a really supportive family, she finds herself in her own home alone more often than she would like. Since losing her husband, she has not been able to look after a dog of her own and dearly misses the little dogs (mainly Shih Tzus) that they used to have. She would love to have cuddles with a lovely little furry friend again; it would make such a difference to her. Â
DarlingtonÂ
Mrs R is 83 and lives alone near Darlington. She absolutely loves dogs, and she always had one – typically Border Collies and Old English Sheepdogs, but she also had rescues and bred her own dogs, so a dog has always had a place in her home and in her life, and she really, really misses them. Mrs R would love a larger breed of dog to visit regularly and to give her that special relationship in her life again and make her world feel brighter. Is your big cuddle monster her new best friend? Â

Stockton on Tees Â
Mrs S lives in Stockton with her husband, but due to quite serious health conditions, which really get her down, they are unable to care for a dog now, and they both really miss the little dogs that they had all their lives. Due to her limited mobility, she is rarely able to go out, and understandably, she feels really isolated from society. It would mean the world to her to have a new friend to chat to and lovely cuddles with a small, calm pooch. Can you help? Â
Mr M is 78 and lives on his own in sheltered accommodation in Stockton-on-Tees. He doesn’t have contact with his family, and due to his mobility issues, he is unable to go out rarely or at all and so is unable to care for a dog of his own. He’s feeling isolated and very sad. He had recently spent some time in a care home where there was a Wag volunteer and dog visiting, and the person who referred him said how much he enjoyed those visits and how they really lifted his mood. He has had small dogs in the past but would love any dog to visit regularly for a cuddle and a friend for a chat over a cuppa.
Mrs G is 69 and lives alone in her own home since losing her husband less than a year ago. She loves all dogs and has had Labradors and German Shepherds all her life. She feels really sad and isolated since losing her husband unexpectedly, and it would make such a difference to her life to be able to have some regular company and a lovely dog in her life again.
Ms S is 86 and has recently moved into a care home because of her health issues, and she’s feeling pretty down. She has had small dogs all her life and is now completely unable to have one of her own anymore. The care home feels that visits on a 1:1 basis from a lovely Wag volunteer and their small, cuddly pooch would really help lift her mood and make her days feel more bearable. Could you be the friend that Ms S really needs?Â

Mr B lives alone; he’s 82 and lost his beloved wife four years ago after almost 52 years together, and he misses her terribly. They always had Labradors, and he has lots of photos of them in his home, but now having a dog of his own isn’t possible for health reasons. He has family fairly close by, but understandably, he still spends quite a lot of time home on his own and having a friend to visit and having contact with a lovely dog again will be very special – a Labrador to visit would be exactly what he’ll hope for but a Labrador sized dog would also be perfect! He loves a chat; he’s not a football fan, though, so Mr B’s new friends will ideally be non football-loving Labrador owners. Could that be you?
