Older dog lovers in our region who need Wag friends!

Tyne & Wear

Newcastle upon Tyne

Ms T, 91, is widowed and lives on her own in her own home. She has had a Visiting Wag Team until recently, when, sadly, our beautiful Hallie passed away.  Whilst she is still great friends with Hallie’s mum’, Lesley, she now misses the company of a dog terribly again. Ms T is really lonely and isolated and has no family, so another two-legged friend and a cuddly dog in her life again will make such a difference to her.

Mrs W is 86 and lives with her husband in Sheltered Accommodation in Newcastle. They have a number of different health problems, and getting out and about has become quite hard for them both now. They have had dogs all their lives, all different breeds, but due to their health issues, they would not be able to look after one of their own any more. They would really benefit from having Wag friends, a lovely dog in their lives and something to look forward to in the week.

Mr A, 82, lives with his wife in their own home, and they are lucky to have family really close by, but unfortunately, they don’t have dogs to visit.  Mr & Mrs A have had all types of dogs throughout their lives and now, unfortunately, know that they would be unable to look after one of their own any more, and they really miss the company of a furry friend in the house.  Could you share your dog and spend an hour most weeks helping this lovely couple?

Mrs S, 88, is married and lives with her husband, who supports her now.  They have had dogs all their lives, but it’s no longer possible. They adore all dogs, but particularly Labradors, and would love to have one in their lives again. If you think your lovely Lab could be Mr & Mrs S’s new friend, you would make their lives feel a lot brighter.

Gateshead

Mrs C, 86, lives on her own since sadly losing her husband shortly after he retired 20 years ago. She has a very supportive family, but they can’t be there all the time, and she spends more time than she’d like on her own. She suffers from multiple health problems and finds herself feeling lonely and sad a lot of the time.

When her husband was alive, they had an Irish Setter that they adored, and she tragically died just before Mrs C’s husband. She’s still a big miss for Mrs C, and she talks about her all the time.

Mrs C would really benefit from the company of a lovely dog again, ideally an Irish Setter of course, but any larger dog, for cuddles and treats and a lovely friend to have a regular chat over a cuppa, will be absolutely perfect! Could it be you?

South Shields

Mrs C, 81, is widowed and lives on her own in Sheltered Accommodation since she lost her husband just a few years ago. Mrs C needed to move for health reasons, and it meant that she was unable to keep her beloved Westie, who had to be rehomed, leaving her devastated. Her family are very supportive, but don’t live locally, and she’s feeling really lonely now.  Mrs C would love to have Wag friends in her life.

Mrs M was widowed over five years ago, and she sadly lost her dog around the same time, too. She’s always had dogs – Collies, Labradors and Dalmatians – but it’s no longer possible to have one of her own, and of course she misses them terribly. We can all imagine what that must feel like, and you can help. With just an hour or two most weeks, for a chat, a cuppa and a cuddle with your special dog, you can make a world of difference to her life and make a new friend at the same time.

Near Alnwick

Mrs L is 78 and now lives alone in a flat in an Assisted Living complex.  She loves dogs and, really sadly, had to rehome her beloved Jack Russell recently after having a fall while walking her. So so sad! After her fall, she is feeling really isolated and lonely, and she’s unable to get out much or at all. She really only sees carers and medical staff now, and so having a lovely new friend for a chat and a cuppa and their lovely dog will be just what the doctor ordered!

Rothbury

Mrs H is 88 and lives on her own in her own home since losing her husband. Really sadly she lost her last dog very recently, and she misses them both terribly. She feels really isolated and lonely, and it’s not possible to have another dog now – Wag friends with two and with four legs will really lift her spirits.

County Durham

Darlington

Mrs S, 87, lives on her own in sheltered accommodation and has significant issues with her sight, which means she’s now struggling to go out much or at all. She lost her Chihuahua recently and misses the company terribly, and is feeling very lonely. She is close to her children, but regular visits from Wag friends for a chat over a cuppa and a cuddle with a lovely dog will mean the world to her. Can you help?

Teesside

Stockton-on-Tees

Mrs L is 76 and lives alone in her own flat in Stockton. Due to her health issues now she doesn’t feel able to get out much at all, so she’s becoming quite isolated. Mrs L had Border Collies all her life. She absolutely loved doing fly ball with her dogs, and she only lost her beloved Collie Tanya less than a year ago. She misses her terribly. If you and your lovely dog – ideally a Border Collie but not essential – could spare just an hour most weeks to bring a special dog back into her life, you’ll make a big difference.

Near Redcar

Mrs N is 77 and lives alone in her own home with no family locally. She goes most days without seeing anyone, and for health reasons, it’s very hard for her to go out now. Mrs N has had dogs all of her life and adores them, especially big ones. Unfortunately, due to her health conditions, she knows that she could never look after one again, which makes her really sad.  If you and your large pooch could spare an hour or two most weeks, it would really give Mrs N something to look forward to.

Middlesbrough

Mr Y, 82, lives on his own in sheltered accommodation in Middlesbrough, and he has no family close by. He’s feeling really lonely and isolated right now, and having had dogs all his life, he really misses them now, too. Mr Y would really benefit from having Wag friends in his life, something to look forward to, someone to visit regularly for a chat over a cuppa and a lovely dog in his life again. Could it be you?
