Sharon and Friendship Dog Mabel visit Mrs B in Newcastle upon Tyne

Mrs B is 84 and was sadly widowed a few short years ago. She lives alone in her own home now, but due to her health problems, she can’t leave the house without support, which leaves her feeling incredibly isolated, especially in the winter. Mrs B has had dogs all her life and really misses having one in her life as well as in her home for company and a cuddle.

The perfect solution came in the form of a very cuddly Westie called Mabel and her ‘mum’, Sharon, who started visiting Mrs B regularly almost a year ago. They hit it off from the start and are now the best of friends.
Mrs B loves the visits, they really give her a lift and she has some lovely routines with Mabel, who quickly found out(!) that when she arrives, Mrs B will take her lead off and reward her with a treat or two. Of course she will, Mabel!

Recently, Mrs B wasn’t feeling very well when Sharon arrived, so between the two of them, a call was made to the GP for an emergency appointment. Sharon took her there immediately in the car, got the prescription from the chemist afterwards, made her comfy, helped her take a tablet, wrote a note for the carers and kept in touch by phone to make sure she was on the mend. That’s just what real friends do, isn’t it? We’re very, very proud of our volunteers.
