Sue and Friendship Dog Hector visit Mrs Doreen D

Mrs D is 94. She lost her beloved husband Peter 10 years ago, and she’s lived alone ever since. With no family close by and some difficult health problems to manage, she had become quite isolated and low. Mrs D and her husband always had dogs, always a Corgi, always a girl and always called Victoria! She can’t have a dog of her own now, and of course, she really misses them.

When she heard about Wag, she was excited about the prospect of having a dog in her life again. So, when Hector, the Cocker Spaniel, walked into her home in North Tyneside with his ‘Mum’, Sue, in January this year, she was absolutely delighted. Mrs D loves seeing Hector and Sue every week, and Hector, of course, now has his own spot on her couch. Mrs D’s carer told us: “Their visits are the highlight of Mrs D’s week. She just loves Sue and Hector is the apple of her eye.” Which is so wonderful to hear.

September saw Mrs D’s 95th birthday, and Sue and Hector decided to help her celebrate. They took her out for a birthday lunch, and when they went home, there was a birthday cake with candles!  When it came time to sing Happy Birthday, as you can hear, Hector didn’t want to miss out! Another special Wag friendship making such a difference!
