Wag meets The King

We were honoured to be one of a small number of charities invited to St James’ Palace to celebrate the King’s Charitable Fund partnership with Waitrose on the Duchy Organics products, which has so far donated over £50 million to charities, including two grants to Wag in 2018 and 2022.

Diane and Jan, with Friendship Dogs Monty and Max, met His Royal Highness, King Charles, in the gardens at Clarence House. It was a beautiful sunny day, and we met some lovely people, heard inspiring stories, and told Wag’s story to everyone we met – including, of course, the King. We were grateful to be able to thank him in person for their support, and Monty even licked his hand!

Wag was one of only 10 charities present of the 1,000 charities that have been supported by the King Charles III Charitable Fund over the years through the profits from the sale of Duchy products at Waitrose. His Majesty was very interested to hear more about our work, meet Monty and Max, and he commented that he couldn’t miss us – that’s Wag red for you! Most importantly, he asked us to “pass on his warmest wishes” to all the hundreds of Wag volunteers across the North East.

One of the case studies featured in the event photo gallery was the wonderful story of Jan, Teddy and Editha lovely example of the difference our Wag Teams make every day across the North East. We missed Teddy, who sadly has been poorly and couldn’t make it, but we couldn’t be prouder of the recognition this event brought to the work of all our amazing Wag volunteers and their dogs.

We also met Ian, the man who cared for the late Queen’s corgis and dorgis, who shared some very special stories, including quoting Her Majesty as saying, to them I’m not the Queen, just Mummy Lovely. Congratulations Team Wag!
