Older dog lovers in our region who need Wag friends!

Tyne & Wear

Newcastle

Mrs D, 90, is widowed and lives alone in sheltered accommodation in Newcastle. She’s had Spaniels all her life, but hasn’t been able to have a dog in quite a while now, and she really misses them.  Mrs D is housebound and would love to have the company of Wag friends, two-legged and four-legged.

Mrs C, 78, is widowed and lives alone in Newcastle. Mrs C has recently been discharged from hospital following a fall and is now home after a period of respite. Having always had Cocker Spaniels, she really misses having a special furry friend and often sits in her front garden with dog treats for the dogs that walk past. Regular visits from a special Wag Team and a relationship with a dog again would make a world of difference.

Gateshead

Mr H, 89, is a widower and lives alone in Gateshead after also sadly losing his son recently who he lived with. Mr H has had a dog in his life since he was a child, right up until losing his beloved Collie about 2 years ago, so he misses having one now.  He has family close by, but he still finds himself spending a lot of time in the house on his own, so regular visits from his own befriending Wag Team would make a big difference. A team which includes a collie would be the icing on the cake! Could your collie cuddle monster change the world for an elderly neighbour with just an hour or two most weeks?

South Shields

Mrs C, 82, is a widow who lives in sheltered accommodation in South Shields. After having to rehome her beloved Westie, she really misses the company of a furry friend. Most of her family don’t live locally, so she would love to have regular visitors for a chat over a cuppa and some special cuddles from a four-legged friend again. Do you have the perfect cuddle monster who could give Mrs C something special to look forward to?

County Durham

Chester le Street

Mrs S, 88, is a widow and lives alone in Chester le Street. She’s had dogs her whole life, but now she isn’t able to get out anymore. She can’t have a dog of her own, and she really misses them. Even though she has a very supportive family, she still spends more time alone than she’d like. When Mrs S heard about Wag, her face lit up, and she was excited to think that a dog would be able to visit her. She loves absolutely all dogs, but small dogs are her very favourite. Do you have a perfect little friend for Mrs S?

Teesside

Hartlepool

Mrs T is 88, widowed and lives alone, and she also lost her much-loved dog around 3 years ago, so she’s really sad and missing her loved ones. Her children visit as often as they can, but she’s still on her own more than she would like, and she’s started feeling quite lonely. It would really help her to have a lovely little dog to hug again, a Wag friend for some company, and a regular chat.

Stockton

Mrs H is widowed and now lives alone in Stockton.  She always had dogs in her life, including an English Sheepdog, a Labrador and a German Shepherd, but after developing some health problems, she can’t have a dog of her own any more, and she spends more time on her own than she’d like. So regular contact with Wag friends and a lovely dog in her life again will make such a difference.

Mrs D, 88, is a widow and lives alone in Stockton. She’s always had small dogs throughout her life, but it’s no longer possible.  Mrs D can’t get out much any more, and she spends more time on her own than she’d like, so Wag friends visiting regularly would make a world of difference.

Miss S, 84, lives alone in her own home in Stockton. She’s had dogs in her life for many years, and after that, she walked dogs for other people, too. She really loves them, and now she can’t have one; she really misses them. Regular Wag friends for company and a hug with a beautiful dog will be just what the Doctor ordered!

Near Redcar

Mrs T, 82, is a widow and lives alone near Redcar. She’s always had dogs in her life; she loves all dogs, and she would absolutely love to have one in her life again now. She also doesn’t get out much now, so having regular visits for a chat with a fellow dog lover and a cuddle with a dog again will make all the difference. Could you and your special dog spare just an hour or two most weeks to let her friends visit and have a dog in her life again?

Northumberland

Near Morpeth

Mrs M, 83, is widowed and lives alone in Morpeth. Mrs M had to rehome her beloved Bichon Frise after a stay in hospital, and although she can’t have a dog of her own anymore, she desperately misses having one. She’s really hoping that this summer she’ll have her own Wag Team with a small dog to sit in the garden with again. Would your little cuddle monster be a perfect new friend for Mrs M?

Near Alnwick

Mrs L is 78 and now lives alone in a flat in an Assisted Living complex.  She loves dogs and, really sadly, had to rehome her beloved Jack Russell recently after having a fall while walking her. So so sad! After her fall, she is feeling really isolated and lonely, and she’s unable to get out much or at all. She really only sees carers and medical staff now, so having a lovely new friend for a chat and a cuppa, and their lovely dog, will be just what the doctor ordered!

Near Rothbury

Mrs M was widowed over five years ago, and she sadly lost her dog around the same time, too. She’s always had dogs – Collies, Labradors and Dalmatians – but it’s no longer possible to have one of her own, and of course she misses them terribly. We can all imagine what that must feel like, and you can help. With just an hour or two most weeks, for a chat, a cuppa, and a cuddle with your special dog, you can make a world of difference to her life and make a new friend at the same time.
