Visiting Wag Team Steven, Lisa and Alfie visit Mrs Molly P in Sunderland!

Wag volunteer Steven 34 has Downs Syndrome and Lisa is his carer.  Steven likes to keep busy and really enjoys taking part in various volunteering roles in his local community including in a local school.

Steven decided he wanted to do some volunteering which included his pal Alfie, Lisa’s poodle, and they had some spare time three Thursdays a month, so to our delight, they joined Wag!

So the new Wag dream team, Steven, Lisa and Friendship Poodle, Alfie, recently started visiting Mrs Molly P in her own home in Sunderland.

Mrs P lives in sheltered accommodation, she’s had dogs throughout her life, Whippets mainly, she also used to train dogs and she adores dogs ‘in all shapes and sizes’!

Mrs P can no longer manage a dog of her own for a number of health reasons tough and she also finds it too difficult to get out herself now and after her son’s health meant he could no longer take her out, she found herself feeling increasingly isolated and lonely.

Mrs P always talks about her dogs to her friends at Age UK Sunderland and so referrer, Elaine Richardson from Age UK, thought that the company of a volunteer and their dog would greatly improve Mrs P’s quality of life.

Sure enough, at the first visit everyone hit it off straight away and Mrs P was delighted that Lisa, Steven and Alfie would be visiting regularly.
