‘Walk for Wag’ 2025 is on Saturday, 13th September!
We moved our walk to the beautiful Derwent Reservoir & Waterside in 2024 and it was wonderful!
As well as raising important funds, it's a chance for everyone to get together, older friends too, walk 8km or 3km - with or without a dog - along the stunning Derwent Reservoir, knowing that every sponsored step you take provides Wag friends for elderly dog lovers in our communities!
Registration has now closed but you can still come along if you’d like to register and donate on Saturday!
About the walk
Indisputably another one of the most beautiful walks in England, the Walk for Wag at Derwent is an 8 kilometre sponsored walk (5 miles) along the Derwent Reservoir and Waterside near Consett.
There is also a 3 kilometre (1.86 miles) walk where a shorter distance would be more appropriate for you and your children or your dogs.
The 8 km walk takes about 1.5 hours at a moderate pace and the 3 km about half an hour. Both walks are on generally good terrain and the 3km walk is wheelchair accessible.
Not every walker brings a dog but the lovely dogs that do come are in all shapes and sizes, they are well socialised, they definitely aren't in season (!) and they are always held on normal walking leads.
There is no charge to take part but we absolutely rely on your fundraising.
The parking charges, Walk for Wag t shirts, special doggie bandanas, chocolate snacks and dog treats to keep you all going are provided free of charge.
So in return we need every adult who takes part to fundraise or donate to enable our work.
It's a great day out with lots going on, a tombola, our Super Prize Raffle, a spectacular cake stand, our new Waggy Tails Fun Dog Show, a brilliant face painter, the Hexham Uketeers, a number of our older friends and the Northumbria Police Dog section; our friend PD Jinger is definitely part of the Wag family!
Can’t wait to see you there!
It's a great day out!
We 'Walked for Wag' at Derwent Waterside in 2024!
We were delighted to see so many people at our wonderful new venue at the Derwent Waterside in September 2024!
130 amazing people and 98 dogs supported us on the day and raised over £13,378! Wow! That gives 28 older people isolated in their own homes in our own communities, Wag friends visiting them most weeks for a whole year. Something to look forward to and talk about and smile and laugh. Precious! Thank you all!
So grateful to everyone who took part, walking or volunteering, Tom, Don and the team at Derwent, Northumbrian Water, Sean and the team at Arco and all those who volunteered, marshalled, supported and sponsored our walkers too. Every single penny raised really makes a difference.
If you'd rather create your own fundraising walk for Wag, at any time and in any place to suit you, just register here and we'll help you Walk for Wag Anywhere.. you like!
We realise that not everyone who wants to support Wag can make it each September, but no need to worry!
Now you can help us support older dog lovers in our communities by creating your own walks any time and anywhere you like..
Take a walk on the Wag side...
When you Walk for Wag, you’re not only helping to end loneliness in our communities...
it’s great fun too!
