The ‘Walk for Wag’ at Kielder is our annual fundraising event which takes place every year in September.

Great news, we have our date for 2022 and we’ll all be walking for Wag together, along the beautiful Lakeside Way from the Kielder Waterside, on Saturday 17th September 2022.

Walkers never regret making the journey and are always stunned by the spectacular scenery;  plus we all have a great fun day out, fundraising to enable more and more Visiting Wag Teams to visit older dog lovers across the North East of England.

Each year we have many different walkers, individuals, families with children, groups of friends, dog walking groups and colleagues from local companies.  To join us, please save the date and registration will open in June 2022.

About the walk

Indisputably one of the most beautiful walks in the UK, the Walk for Wag is a 10 kilometre sponsored walk (6.2 miles) starting at the Kielder Waterside along the Lakeside Way.

There is also a 3 kilometre (1.86 miles) walk where a shorter distance would be more appropriate for you and your children or your dogs.

The 10 km walk takes just about 2 hours at a moderate pace and the 3 km about half an hour. Both walks are on generally good terrain and the 3km walk is wheelchair accessible with support.

Not every walker brings a dog but the lovely dogs that do come are in all shapes and sizes, they are well socialised, they definitely aren't in season (!) and they are always held on normal walking leads.

There is no charge to take part. The parking charges, Walk for Wag t shirts, special doggie bandanas, chocolate snacks and dog biscuits to keep you going are all provided. We just ask everyone who takes part to help us by contributing at least £50 to support our work either by setting up a JustGiving page, downloading a sponsorship form or making a donation.

It's a great day out with lots going on, a raffle, the spectacular sight of Newfoundlands doing rescues in the Reservoir, the Hexham Uketeers and the dogs of the Northumbria Police Dog section often join us;  our friend PD Jinger, is part of the Wag family!

Save the date for 2022;  Saturday 17th September!

It's a great day out!

Look out for the face painter, the Hexham Uketeers, the dogs from Northumbria Police Dogs Section and don't forget to get your tickets for our Super Prize Raffle on the day.

Walk for Wag 2021

We were delighted to see so many people back Walking for Wag at Kielder in September 2021 after our forced Covid break for 2020.  We raised almost £7,000! That's 20 new Visiting Wag Teams visiting older dog lovers for a whole year right across our region!

So grateful to everyone who took part, walking or volunteering, the team at Landal Kielder Waterside and Arco: Experts In Safety and all those who supported and sponsored our walkers too. Every single penny raised really makes a difference.

We’d love to see everyone again this year for another lovely day out in the beautiful Northumberland countryside with Police Dogs, Newfoundlands, Hexham Uketeers and so much more;  please save the date and register on the 1st of June to  Walk for Wag on 17 SEPTEMBER 2022!  #walkforwag
