Visiting Wag Team Cheryl and Alfie visit Mr B in Whitley Bay
Mr B has recently moved into Eastbourne House Care Home in Whitley Bay. His daughter Jan is very supportive and involved in his care, but over time, both his mobility and memory have gotten worse, and she’s not been able to fully support him at home.
Mr B has had dogs all his life and absolutely loves them, so Jan got in touch to see if we could find a lovely Wag team to visit him regularly in his room. We did, and Cheryl, with Friendship Dog Alfie, went along to meet them both. It went spectacularly well!
Jan told us it was a very emotional visit all round, and not only had it made her Dad’s day, but it had made hers, too. Her Dad’s eyes lit up when he met Alfie, and Jan was amazed to hear him telling stories about his own dogs that she had never heard before!
Her Dad had also previously lost his confidence in writing, but all of a sudden, he took out his notebook and, pen in hand, started making a note of the weekly visit time to remind him when he would see Alfie again.
That’s the unique power of a beautiful dog!
Jan told us: “Alfie and Cheryl are a perfect match, and Wag is such a life-enhancing charity.”
We’re delighted we could help make a difference.
