Wag & Company awarded much-needed funding from the Postcode Neighbourhood Trust

We’re delighted to have been awarded a £25,000 grant by the Postcode Neighbourhood Trust.

Wag & Company relies entirely on everyone’s help to enable the life-changing work that we do, and there’s a long list of things needed to keep Wag wagging. This vital funding will be used to help us assess, insure, deploy, and support 62 Visiting Wag Teams and their special friends in 2024. It will enable over 1,800 visits to older, vulnerable and disabled dog lovers in their own homes across the North East of England in 2024; fantastic – thank you so much!

Loneliness can damage your physical as well as your mental health. Our Visiting Wag Teams are regularly visiting older dog lovers across the region alone in their own homes as well as in care and medical establishments. The people they visit are often bereaved, grieving, with failing health and mobility and have become isolated and profoundly lonely. They miss the dog owning community they’ve been part of all their lives and by connecting them with local, fellow doggie people, they often regain that sense of belonging as well as having a dog in their lives again, making friends for life and having regular company and something to look forward to.

Diane Morton, Founder & CEO at Wag and Company, said: “We’re so grateful to The Postcode Neighbourhood Trust for this grant. Like many charities, we’re still recovering from the COVID pandemic and feeling the effects of the cost of living crisis, so this funding is vital to supporting people in our local communities. Having friends for a regular chat over a cuppa and a lovely cuddle from a special dog on your lap again, can make such a difference to someone who can’t get out much and spends a great deal of time alone and we can’t thank The Postcode Neighbourhood Trust enough for their support in helping us do that.”

The Postcode Neighbourhood Trust is a grant-giving charity, funded entirely by players of The People’s Postcode Lottery. Since launching in 2005, players of the lottery have raised hundreds of millions of pounds for thousands of organisations across Britain and internationally. By providing financial support for charities and good causes, Postcode Neighbourhood Trust helps communities combat discrimination, prevent poverty and promote human rights.

Thank you so much to the Postcode Neighbourhood Trust for choosing us; every penny granted is providing special Wag friends for older dog lovers in our local North East communities.
